Easy Halloween Craft

Pumpkin Bundt Cake

One very easy Halloween craft is a pumpkin bundt cake. This cake is a simple craft project that children can do with adult supervision. The cake makes a great gift or is a wonderful treat to bring to a work or school Halloween party.

Project time: 2 hours (includes cake baking and cooling time)

Supplies
  • Cake mix or cake recipe (I prefer white cake for this craft)Bundt pan

  • Ice cream cone

  • 6 oz. white chocolate

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 4 tbsp. milk or cream

  • 1/4 tsp. clear vanilla

  • Red, yellow and green food coloring

Directions

  1. Bake cake according to recipe. I like adding an orange gelatin mix and 1/2 to 3/4 cup orange juice to the cake mix. This turns the cake a peachy orange color. You could also add red and yellow food coloring to the batter to turn the cake orange. This is all optional since you will pour an orange sugar glaze over the top of the cake.

  2. Allow the cake to cool completely.

  3. While the cake is cooling, melt 6 oz of white chocolate over low heat in a sauce pan. When the chocolate is completely melted, add 1 of milk or cream, creating a ganache. If the chocolate is too thick, add more milk or cream ½ a teaspoon at a time. Don’t make the ganache too thin or it won’t stick to the cone.

  4. When the ganache is the right consistency, add two drop of green food coloring and stir.

  5. Take the ice cream cone and spoon green ganache over it, until it is completely covered. Set it on a wire rack (with a plate underneath to catch drippings) and allow to harden. The cone will be the pumpkin stem.

  6. When the cake is completely cool, sift 1 cup of powdered sugar into a bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of milk and mix well. This is the glaze. If it is too thick, add milk ½ teaspoon at a time until it is the right consistency.

  7. Add 2 drops of red food coloring and 3 drops of yellow food coloring to the glaze and mix to turn the glaze orange.

  8. When the glaze is ready and the cake is cool, set the cake on a wire rack with a tray underneath. Slowly pour the glaze over the cake, turning the cake to coat it. Immediately use a spatula to spread glaze, as needed. Allow glaze to dry.

  9. When the glaze is dry, move the cake to a cake dish. Place the cone upside down in the hole in the center of the cake.

You now have a simple, yet adorable pumpkin bundt cake. Share this delicious easy Halloween craft with friends, family and co-workers at parties and get-togethers.
