Dainty Fairy Princess Skirt

Easy Craft Project For Dress Up or Halloween

A fairy princess skirt is an easy craft project that can be completed in an afternoon. It requires very few supplies and can be personalized with colored tulle, ribbon and embellishments. Best of all, the instructions are so simple, even a child as young as 7 or 8 could probably complete the project.

Craft Project Time: 2 hours

Supplies

  • 6 inch wide tulle (any color). For variety, choose 2 or 3 colors of tulle.

  • Elastic

  • Needle and thread or sewing machine

  • Scissors

  • Yard stick

Directions

  1. To make the skirt a correct fit, have the recipient of the skirt available for measurements. Measure the waist of the recipient of the skirt.

  2. Cut the elastic to this measurement.

  3. Sew the ends of the elastic together to form a loop. The skirt will have an elastic waistband.

  4. Measure the length you want the skirt to fall, starting from where the elastic waistband will sit. Double this measurement. For example, if you want the skirt to be 10 inches long, you will double this length to 20 inches. This is the length you will cut the tulle.

  5. Measure and cut the 6” wide tulle to the correct length (double the measurement of the skirt length). Cut 50-60 pieces of tulle. If you have more than one color of tulle, cut equal numbers of pieces of each color.

  6. You are now ready to cut the tulle ends into the shape of leaves (or points). Each piece will be cut individually. Take the first piece and fold it in half so the width is now 3 inches. With the fold toward you, place the scissors 2 inches from the top and cut diagonally away from you. Repeat on the other end. Repeat this step until all the tulle pieces are shaped.

  7. Take the first piece of tulle and tie to the waistband in a double knot. Repeat with the next piece of tulle. As you continue tying the tulle, scoot the pieces as close to each other as possible. This makes the fairy skirt fuller.

  8. When all the tulle has been tied to the skirt, you can add any embellishments you wish.

With the jagged, leafy edges, the fairy skirt has a different look than the princess skirt, although they are very similar. If you want the skirt to resemble Tinker Bell’s skirt, use only green tulle (I used sparkle green tulle in this example). However, there are lots of fairies and they all have different colored skirts. So choose the colors that you like and enjoy this easy-to-make costume. The skirt can be worn as dress up or to a fairy party.
