Halloween Hooded Towels for Kids
Easy Hooded Towel Pattern

After a bath, nothing is better than hooded towels for kids. They can dry their hair and wrap up warmly. Hooded towels are easy craft projects that can be personalized or embellished with ribbon and appliqués. This makes them a unique gift for your own children or for other children.
Craft project time: 1 hour
Supplies

- Sewing machine
- 1 large orange bath towel (use the size of towel the child usually uses)
- 1 orange hand towel (same color or coordinating color)
- Orange thread
- Halloween *grosgrain ribbon (I used 5/8” printed ribbon)
*Grosgrain ribbon is recommended because it does not slide like satiny ribbon
- Pins
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Fabric glue (optional)
Directions
- Fold hand towel in half.
- Cut towel along fold. You will only need half of the towel, but can use the other half for another hooded towel project.

- Measure the width of the towel.
- Cut the Halloween ribbon to the towel width.
- Find the right side of the towel.
- Measure 6 1/2 inches from the top of the towel (finished end) and pin the ribbon to the right side of the towel with the print UPSIDE DOWN. (See picture below.)

Optional: If you have satin ribbon or you are worried about the ribbon moving when you sew, glue the ribbon to the towel with fabric glue.
- Sew the ribbon to the towel. Make a seam on the top and the bottom of the ribbon to secure it.
- Turn the towel over so the ribbon is face down with the raw edge at the top. (See picture below.)

- Fold the towel up 1/3 of the length (about 4 inches).
- Pin along the long edge that used to be the top of the towel.

- Sew along the edge you have pinned.

- Turn towel over so the ribbon faces up and the raw edge is at the top.

- Fold right sides together.

- Pin the raw edges together.
- Sew a 3/4” straight seam.
- Sew again with a zig zag seam.
- Trim close to the seam.
- With the raw edge up, fold towel into a triangle with right sides together. You should see the seam you just sewed.

- Measure 1/2" from the top point of the triangle and mark.
- Sew a straight line at the 1/2" mark.

- Cut off the triangle top, close to the seam you just sewed.

Congratulations. The hood is finished.

- Fold the large bath towel in half and mark the center.

- With the hood upside down, pin the hood to the bath towel right sides together.

- Sew hood to towel with straight seam.
- Repeat with a zig zag seam.
- Fold towel edge down on inside at the seam you just sewed.

- Sew along edge to finish towel.
