Fluffy Princess Skirt
Easy to Make and Fun to Twirl

Most little girls love princess skirts. They are fluffy and girly and fun to twirl in. These skirts can also be used as a ballet or fairy skirt. Best of all this project is easy and requires almost no sewing. In fact, you do not even need a sewing machine to complete this project. The skirt can be customized by color, size, style or embellishment.
Prep Time: 15 minutes Craft Project Time: 1 hour
Supplies:- 6 inch wide tulle (any color you like)
Tip: Choose 2 or 3 different coordinating colors
- Sparkle ribbon (optional)
- Optional: embellishments such as flowers or bows
- Elastic (1/2 inch to 1 inch wide)
- Scissors
- White thread
- Needle or sewing machine
Preparation for Princess Skirt:
- Measure the waist of the princess who will be wearing the skirt.
- Cut the elastic to fit the waist measurement. Keep in mind that you will be sewing the ends together, so adjust as needed. Also remember that elastic stretches.
Tip: Hold the elastic around the waist the way it will be fitting to measure the length.
- Using a sewing machine or needle and thread, sew the ends of the elastic together, so you have one continuous circle of elastic for the waist.
- Measure from the waist to the length you want the skirt to stop. Double this number. This is the length you will cut the tulle strips.
For example, if you want the skirt to be 9 inches from the waist band, you would cut the tulle strips 18 inches long.
- Cut 50 strips of tulle. If you have more than one color of tulle, cut the colors into an equal numbers of pieces.
- Optional: Cut 6 to 8 pieces of sparkle ribbon 2 to 3 inches shorter than the tulle strips.
Apply a small amount of fray check to the ends of the sparkle ribbon. This will prevent the ribbon from fraying.
Directions for Princess Skirt
- Take the first tulle piece and tie it on the elastic loop in a double knot.
- Tie the next piece of tulle on the elastic loop in a double knot.
- Scoot the pieces of tulle as close together as possible.
- Continue tying the pieces of tulle on the elastic in double knots.
- Scrunch the tulle as close together as possible to achieve a fluffier skirt.
- When the elastic loop is completely covered, finish the skirt by tying the sparkle ribbon strips a few inches apart on top of the tulle.
- Try your finished skirt on your princess and let her twirl.
